Before and Ahead…

Step into a new day. We can rise up from the dust and walk away. We can dance upon the heartache, so light a match, leave the past, burn the ships and don’t you look back…” ~”Burn the Ships” by For King and Country~

A bit of perspective before diving headlong into a new, long-overdue, adventure. A revisiting of past goals and a willingness to make new ones. As Bilbo Baggins mused to his nephew:

It’s a dangerous business [Frodo], going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

I plan to be swept into the maelstrom of daily life and share my effusions with you while in the thick of it, so, use that scroll button and step out the door and join me.

Before I can fully explore a new blog series I’ve been working on, I must admit that I began this journey of digital blogging about six years ago, ready to take my ruminations and share them out. I have never shied away from expressing myself, sometimes to the skepticism or chastisement of others, both close to me and total strangers; however, that did not stop me from forging onward and digging underneath the bedrock of my life. I have always looked at Emily Dickinson’s poem about helping the “fainting robins” in our lives to their nest as a mission statement or mantra. You could also take Mr. Fred Rogers’ concept of “look[ing] for the helpers” as a similar focal point of my purpose.

By scrolling through these virtual meanderings, you will traverse the texts that give me comfort, inspiration and hope—classical and modern literature, song, poetry, plays, Bible verse, historical scribbling, children’s narratives—in short, what lies at my fingertips, in my memory bank of key texts, and in my bookcase. You will see the inner mechanisms of my mind–hence, why I {more than ambitiously} called the blog, “Effusions of Wit.”

My aspirations lie in a faithful narrative of doings of the world around me; I have always believed in the “no day but today” outlook. If not now, then when?

So, come along with me, and together, we shall be.
